  • Aflatoxin B1 in Maize. Change in risk profile for Ukraine, Italy and France

    21/12/2022

As a result of the evaluation of the available analysis results of Aflatoxin B1 in maize EFISC-GTP, together with other accepted scheme holders, has adjusted the risk profile for Aflatoxin B1. For Ukraine this means that the risk changes from “Medium” to “Low”. For Italy this means that the risk changes from “Medium” to “High”. For the departments located in the South part of France the risk changes from “Low” to “Medium”: this means that, from the moment this protocol becomes effective, France will be divided into two different risk categories:

    - Medium: only South part (departments 85, 79, 86, 17, 16, 87, 23, 19, 03, 63, 15, 43, 71, 39, 42, 69, 01, 74, 73, 38, 07, 26, 24, 33, 40, 64, 47, 46, 82, 32, 65, 31, 81, 12, 09, 48, 30, 34, 11, 66, 05, 04, 06, 83, 84 and 13)

    - Low: all the other departments.

Because of the division of France into two different risk categories, EFISC-GTP recommends its participants that the origin of each delivery of French maize is clearly communicated by the supplier. The reason for this decision is linked to the increase in the values of Aflatoxin B1 which were observed on maize collected only in the departments indicated above. You find the new protocol here.

The changed protocol takes effect on December 23th 2022.

  • Aflatoxin B1 contamination in maize gluten feed produced in the Netherlands produced from maize originating from South-Western France

    31/03/2021

Contamination with Aflatoxin B1 of maize gluten feed. Be alert when purchasing!

    What is the issue?

One EFISC-GTP producer located in the Netherlands recently delivered in the market some batches of maize gluten feed containing increased levels of Aflatoxin B1. The product is sold via distributors directly to dairy and veal farmers.

The maize gluten feed in question has been produced using maize originating from South-Western France. Although the maize used complies with the standard, permitted levels have been exceeded in the maize gluten feed as a result of the concentration factor during processing. Maize gluten feed was distributed in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and France.

The EFISC-GTP producer has already informed the receivers of the material and a withdrawal of affected material has commenced. EFISC-GTP informed also the other mutually recognized schemes involved in this contamination. As a precaution, customers of other maize related products (maize gluten) have also been alerted to this issue: further analysis is being conducted to inform any necessary steps for these products. EFISC-GTP recommends you to be alert when purchasing maize gluten feed and the other mentioned feed materials.

If you are also involved in this incident, please remember that EFISC-GTP certified companies must follow our incident notification procedure available in our website (here the link). If you need to receive more information please write to fulvio.pernice@efisc-gtp.eu

  • SGS The Netherlands first certification body accredited for EFISC-GTP Code version 4.0

    9 July 2020

The European Feed and Food Ingredients Safety Certification (EFISC-GTP Aisbl) is proud to announce that SGS The Netherlands is the first certification body accredited (among the EFISC and GTP Authorised Certification Bodies) for the new EFISC-GTP Code 4.0 for all the scopes (D, F and G).

The process was headed in SGS by the certification manager Mr Roy Giesen (here the contact in the EFISC-GTP webpage). The accreditation was carried out by the Dutch Accreditation Council.

The EFISC-GTP Code version 4.0 (published on 15 March 2019) is the result of the unification of the EFISC Code and the GTP Codes and their adjustments to meet recent developments following the merger of the European Feed Ingredient Safety Certification Scheme (EFISC) and the COCERAL Good Trading Practice Code (GTP Code).

The new EFISC-GTP Code 4.0 is fully aligned with the requirements of ISO/ IEC 17021:2011 supplemented by ISO/ TS 22003 (food safety management system).

Specific sector documents, which are part of the code, cover the following activities:

    - Vegetable oils and protein meal processing

    - Starch processing

    - Biodiesel processing

    - Malt processing

    - Collection, storage, trade and transport of safe feed/food ingredients

  • Effect of the COVID-19 outbreak on the auditing activity of certification Bodies

    23 March 2020

EFISC-GTP recognizes COVID-19 as an extraordinary event that could affect the audit frequency of auditors operating in the scopes of EFISC, GTP and EFISC-GTP codes. As a consequence, EFISC-GTP Certification Bodies are allowed to postpone audits (surveillance, unannounced and re-certification) for a period that should not exceed six months as of March 6th 2020 (day on which all EFISC and GTP Certification Bodies were informed of this option), if there is sufficient documented proof that the certified management system is effective.

When the re-certification audit cannot be performed, the validity of the certificate can be extended until the day of the new audit.

The eligibility of delivery to the other EFISC-GTP mutually recognized schemes is confirmed even if the audit will be postponed.

If according to the company safety internal policy, it is not possible to carry out the audit in this period due to the current situation, companies are requested to inform the Certification Body.

In 4/5 months, the EFISC-GTP Board (taking in consideration the number of audits that have been delayed and the information regarding the diffusion of COVID-19 in EU countries) will re-evaluate this problem in order to consider eventual further actions.

EFISC-GTP Certification Bodies are going to be informed about the use of information and communication technology (ICT) as support for auditing.

  • The new EFISC-GTP Code has been accepted by the NVWA as a quality system that could support the public supervision in the Netherlands.

    26 April 2019

The new EFISC-GTP Code has been accepted by the NVWA as a quality system that could support the public supervision in the Netherlands.

The new EFISC-GTP Code version 4.0 of the European Feed & Food ingredient safety certification system has concluded its assessment procedure with the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product safety Authority (NVWA): the new EFISC-GTP system complies with the criteria of the Dutch ‘Taskforce Voedselvertrouwen’. This means that in the near future, EFISC-GTP may be considered by the NVWA as a quality system that could support the public supervision of feed and food operators. In accordance with this outcome, the status of EFISC-GTP on www.ketenborging.nl will be adjusted (‘accepted’) in a couple of weeks.

  • EFISC-GTP Code version 4.0 is now accredited

    15 March 2019

The implementation of the new European Feed & Food ingredient safety certification system will start as of 15 March 2019.

The new EFISC-GTP Code version 4.0 of the European Feed & Food ingredient safety certification system has concluded its evaluation process with the European Accreditation Body (Dutch Accreditation Council).

The EFISC-GTP Code version 4.0 is the result of the unification of the EFISC Code and the GTP Codes and their adjustments to meet recent developments following the merger of the European Feed Ingredient Safety Certification Scheme (EFISC) and the COCERAL Good Trading Practice Code (GTP Code).

The new EFISC-GTP Code 4.0 is fully aligned with the requirements of ISO/ IEC 17021:2011 supplemented by ISO/ TS 22003 (food safety management system).

As of 15 March 2019, the EFISC-GTP scheme will start replacing the EFISC and the GTP schemes through a transition process that will provide opportunity to Certification Bodies to obtain accreditation (see the transition document) during one and half year followed by another year to allow companies to get certified according to the adjusted rules.

Specific sector documents, which are part of the code, cover the following activities:

    - Vegetable oils and protein meal processing

    - Starch processing

    - Biodiesel processing

    - Collection, storage, trade and transport of safe feed/food ingredients.

You can find the new documents in the document section of the EFISC-GTP website. Please see the Annex for the full list of the changes made: you find the new document here.

    Important deadlines are:

    - Publication of the new scheme: 15 March 2019

    - Deadline for accreditation of Certification Bodies: 15 September 2020

    - Deadline for certification (against the new code) of EFISC-GTP companies: 15 September 2021

  • EFISC-GTP Procedure for Feed/Food Safety Incident and Crisis Management

Preparing for crisis situations and responding appropriately to them is an important element of feed and food safety. Because feed and food safety has been a top issue internationally, both politically and commercially, and because serious incidents in the feed and food sector can occur, demonstrable assurance of feed/food safety has become a sales prerequisite. A (potential) disruption in one or more feed materials producing companies can have negative consequences for the whole feed and food chain. Decisive, structured and unambiguous respond and act - if necessary chain context - is desirable, both to prevent a disturbance and/ or minimize the impact of the incident.

Therefore the EFISC-GTP Technical Committee has developed a new “Feed/Food Safety Incident and Crisis Management Procedure version 2.0” to be used in addition to the requirements in the EFISC and GTP crisis management. The document contains the scenario for the adoption of measures and communication in the event of a feed/food safety incident and/or crisis. The starting point is the responsibility of the feed material operator, both for his business and industry as a whole. Action and communication shall be done in collaboration with other stakeholders in the feed chain. You find the related documents here.

    Mandatory from: 2/05/2018
