Welcome to EFISCThe European code to good practice for the industrial manufacturing of safe feed materials (EFISC) has been developed by a shared commitment of the starch industry (AAF) and the oilseed crushing, oil refining and protein meal industry (FEDIOL) in the framework of the European Feed Ingredients Platform (EFIP) to provide an EU harmonised, voluntary feed safety assurance scheme for the feed materials industry. The text of the Code is based on the European Guide to good practice for the industrial manufacturing of safe feed materials, developed by the sector and endorsed by the European Commission and the EU Member States as of the 1th of July 2010. The aim of the code is to provide safe feed for animals and to consumers further down in the food chain. This by making the best use of the industry’s experience and expertise. Furthermore, a harmonised assurance scheme will positively contribute to the removal of trade barriers caused by different national standards and last but not least increased transparency and customer confidence. Therefore the code provides guidance for companies on how to establish their own feed safety management system in accordance with the relevant EU legislation. The code includes requirements for the management system, prerequisite programmes, risk control (hazard analysis critical control points), withdrawal and traceability. Running side by side, a transparent, solid and independent certification system has been developed by EFISC resulting in a uniform, highly compliant performance by the operators participating.
